Day care center
Our Day Care Centre takes care of 30 destitute elders from the neighboring areas providing them food, clothing and medical assistance. Currently we operate in a rented place. A residential Social worker, caretaker and two cooks are appointed to take care of the center activities. The beneficiaries are involved in the day-to-day activities at the Centre, which creates a sense of belongingness among the elderly.
Residential Care for destitute elders
ARUWE takes care of 12 destitute elderly women and 1 destitute elderly man, striving to fulfill their medical care, food and clothing. All their other needs are met in an environment of love and care. In case of any death, we try to give them a dignified end.
Recreation and Cultural Programs
The inmates, as well as, the Day Care Center beneficiaries participate in various programs like Annual Day Celebrations, Festival Celebrations and Picnics conducted by ARUWE. They participate in programs organized by other NGOs. They are taken out for Picnics twice a year in and around Chennai. All the Festivals are celebrated with great Joy and unity at ARUWE bringing them together as one family.
Educational Sponsorship for the children
ARUWE focuses on Single Parent Children and from Low Socio-Economic Background, to prevent school dropouts and providing Educational Assistance. We help 130 deprived children in and around Ayanavaram meeting their basic Educational needs like school fees, notebooks and uniforms.
Tuition Center
Though the venue is cramped with many activities, yet we felt the need of running a Tuition Center for the neighboring children to help them cope their studies on a daily basis. With this intuition coaching classes was started and we have now 130 children attending the classes regularly. The classes commences daily at 4.30 pm and closes at 7.00 pm.
ARUWE has appointed four teachers to monitor the progress of each child. A special attention is given to the Children who need special assistance in studies.
Extra Curriculum
The Children are also encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities like Sports, Games and Cultural Programs. During the summer, we conducted Summer Camps for our Children, to throw more light on Social Awareness, Personality Development and Creativity. Thus, ARUWE concentrates on the Overall Development of the Children.
Night Meal For the Deprived Children
Based on the records of the Children of our Tuition Center, we identified that more than 30 children go to bed without food. They are from a single parent family and from a low socio-economic background. ARUWE provides dinner for these deprived children.
Counseling
Professional Social Workers in ARUWE are doing a voluntary service of providing counseling to the clients with Family, marital & Social Problems, who come to our organization as well as referred by other organizations.
School Dropouts are given special attention. We conduct a study on those children with a help of our staff and help them to pursue their studies. In case of any psychological problems, we counsel the particular student and the family to bring them to the normal and routine life.
Medical Check up
We provide the best of medical service to the Inmates in spite of the absence of a regular residential doctor in our organization. All doctors who provide a voluntary service to our Organization ensure the best of medical treatment to our residents.
We at ARUWE conduct Eye Camps and Health Camps for Adopted Communities and for the General Public. We also do follow-up for deserving Patients. As most of our Inmates are suffering from different ailments, we are unable to give them sufficient medical facilities due to lack of funds.
Income generation Programs
As a part of the Income Generation Programs, our Inmates were trained to prepare Phenol and market them to the nearby areas. As an appreciation the inmates are given, a fraction of the sale proceeds for their personal use. We also supply Phenol to three Companies, who give orders regularly to our Organization. The money is utilized for the medical expenses of our Inmates.
For Women
Through Word of Mouth many women folk approach us for help. Majority of them are women who seek financial help and psychological Counseling. Women come to us with a lot of problems facing at home and at work. Counseling are given with the help of professionally trained Counselors.
Other Activities for Children
To encourage and to bring out more from the children, we conduct various competitions like Singing, Drawing, Dance, Speech and Cultural Programs and the best participants are awarded. These children exhibit their talents especially when we celebrate Children’s Day, Elders Day, Annual Day and other Festivals. We encourage our Children to participate in Cultural Programs organized by other NGOs in Chennai.
Community Programs
ARUWE organizes Community Awareness Programs for the local slum dwellers. We also conduct General Health Camp and Eye Screening Camp. ARUWE enabled them to start self-help groups among women.
